Information on exotic and wild animal so-called sanctuaries

Are you supporting an animal organization that exploits their animals and/or funding does not go to the animals….things to watch for…

• A wild animal sanctuary that brings animals to events to show how cute they are {like a petting zoo} instead of catering to the animal’s welfare.

• To have the general public visit in this way is disturbing to the animal. For example having an event with alcohol around animals. An animal sanctuary is not a party place or a gathering place for people, it is a place of peace and safety or the animals. The environment is important. If this is happening then this place should be considered a zoo or entertainment entity, which is for the benefit of the people and not the animals.

• Wild animals that are kept in cages or small areas brings on depression. Quality of life is now gone, to roam just once in a while is not acceptable. This shows lack of concern for the animal.

• Sanctuary equals freedom, where all wild animals roam free except when sick. These places should be supported.

• Also be careful of any place that states they will kill their animals if they are not receiving enough funding. This shows lack of commitment and manipulation.

• Wild animal sanctuaries that seem to always have baby animals. They always have a hard luck story to them, which usually is not true. They are usually breeders, even if they have paperwork, which is probably not the case.

• This applies to shelters for domestic animals that to always recue young or easy adoptable animals. These animals are featured on TV. These shelters complain they have no room, they have to kill the animals in their care to rescue the ones they go on TV for.

• Shelters that go out of state to rescue animals to be on TV. Remember these are the same shelters and sanctuaries that say they can’t take care of the animals here.

• Small mammal rescues and pure-breed rescues are sometimes breeders.

• Organizations that keep their animals in poor conditions while they use words like, “we do our best,” “we try,” and “we are working towards,” all mean failure in providing for their animals.

• Organization that rescue one species, but breed different species. This shows they have no problem using animals for profit.

Be a smart donor, animals need YOU!
